Gilbert's Questionare

Are people with Gilbert's Syndrome more prone to getting Gallstones and/or Cancer?

Is fat undigestable by people with GS, and if so what happens to the fat?

After the age of 40, Gallstones may be present in 50% women & 20% men, but why is this?

Sun - can the sun (source of Vit. D) help break down the bilirubin in the blood? My doctor says ''NO''.

Why is it good for people with GS to eat regularaly?

Is Bilirubin itself a toxic?

Why do GS suferers only notice the symptoms in adult hood?

Are Omega 3 & 6 oils toxic to the liver, can they be digested?

The Enzyme defficient for breaking down Bilirubin in the blood is UGT1A1 (30% prsent in people with GS , another two enzymes are UGT1A6 & UGT1A7. Are there any substitutes that can replace or help these defficient enzymes?

How successful is glutathione as an antioxidant for neutralising free radicals produced in phase 1 detoxification in the liver?

UPDATE
I can answer the first question myself now. There seems to be a higher risk of people with GS that suffer gall stones, i think it was 15% with people who had gall stones had GS & without was 3%.

Also found this information....

In 61% of patients a moderately shortened erythrocyte life span has been revealed. However the increased bile pigment production in these cases does not speak against Gilbert's disease. The results of biochemical assays have shown that in n.u.h not only the intrahepatic bilirubin metabolism is disturbed but other functions of the liver cell as well.

Note: Erythocyte = red blood cell.

Note: This could account for the fatigue associated with Gilbert's Syndrome

Could this be handy in trying to eliminate a false diagnosis of GS, in testing a red blood cell count or have i misunderstood that statement?
