Re: Lyme Bytes: Taking salt (particularly sea salt), at a minimum of 3-4 grams per day is important.

My dad had a blood test, and saliva test done recently. Blood test showed "normal" nothing out of the ordinary, and for his age, 77, in excellent health. His complaint, extreme fatigue.

Saliva test showed the story. His adrenals are about shut off. Two times during the day, they were producing less than 1. Normal range for the cortisol burden is between 23-42 for the whole day. His is at 9. Adrenal exhaustion.

I was telling him about what the book "Adrenal Fatigue in the 21st century" by Wilson said about adrenal fatigue and taking salt 2x a day (1/2-1 tsp in water when you first get up, and again at 2 pm), and Vitamin C 3x a day (plus the glandular supplement and specific B vitamins and minerals).

The Alt Med Dr put him on glandulars and B complex, so I was trying to encourage him to also take the Sea Salt and vitamin C...

It is very, very hard to try to convince someone that has heard all their life how salt is bad for you, that they need to take salt! His blood pressure is on the low side, he has no heart problems. I don't think I'm going to be able to convince him that salt is not bad!

From the saliva test also, he's found out how high he is for gliadins (gluten) His number was 32...positive is at 15. He listened when the Dr told him that continuing to eat the grains will keep the gut inflammed/damaged. He's trying to cut grains out of his diet...and he also showed allergy to eggs.

Plus his blood Sugar spiked after he ate his normal bowl of fruit for breakfast--it was 46, optimal range is 5-20. The Dr told him he needs to be sure to eat protein, which he hadn't been doing much.

So, lots of things to think about and make changes for, but making up his mind to do it is the first step...but especially when you've done the same things for all of your life, it's not easy to make changes--in fact, sometimes it's down right hard...now, if I can just convince him that salt is really ok (!)
