Well, I tried three days of Primal Defence...
...From Garden of Life...
I wasn't overly favorably impressed.
Perhaps I went into it skeptically...and three days (3/day) isn't very long, or much.
I had read that some soil micro organisms will go directly to deposits of impacted feces in the bowels and eliminate them. I wanted some of that, thank you very much.
Reading the label on this very expensive bottle I saw, first, a long list of Lacto-somethings...probiotics made on milk as far as I know. Sigh.
But there were also two that I had read as being important in this forum...B. subtilis and B. licheniformis. Okay, those are probably from soil.
The front of the label says HSO Probiotic Formula...and the sale was offered to my husband as 'soil' micro organisms.
You'd think that the company would want to boast about that. I guess not.
When the salesclerk heard that we wanted to use it for making sauerkraut, she lit right up and wanted us to let her know how it turned out.
That was a learning experience, I must tell you...our first try at kraut. One place mentioned that the skin of cabbage has some kind of Lactobacillus already on it. We didn't add any Primal Defense, after all.
Internally, I noticed a titch of gassiness (from swallowing Primal Defence), and some tendency toward a few symptoms I have recently seemed to overcome...or nearly so.
I haven't, so far, noticed much improvement in bowel functions from it, nor any harm, either.
All this while I've had a strong urge to go out in the garden, stick my fingers in the most plant-protected area, brush off any grit, and put them in my mouth.
I've eaten quite a few unwashed fruits and veggies lately, when I was sure they hadn't been sprayed.
Overall, I think we are too inclined to 'sterilize' everything. I don't think we know what we are missing.
If I do go and stick my fingers in dirt, and I survive, I'll let you know what happens.
My dad always said we have to eat a peck of dirt before we die. I wonder which way he meant that.
:D
