Outside of the box: Ichthyosis
"Ichthyosis: The keratin fails to shed from the skin as it should. A feature of two very common non-diseases, several serious hereditary diseases, and a few acquired ones."
"Ichthyosis is the term used to describe continual and widespread scaling of the skin. It may be inherited (genetic) or acquired during life. The inherited forms are rare and are generally present from infancy and are usually lifelong conditions. Acquired Ichthyosis can develop at any age due to a number of medical problems, such as kidney disease."
"the skin cells are produced at the standard rate, but don't separate normally as they reach the skin's surface. This means skin cells aren't shed as quickly as they should be, leading to a build-up of cells, which appear as scales."
"In an Ichthyosis sufferer, the normal shedding process is inhibited or “slowed down” and in extreme cases the production of the skin cells can also be at a more rapid rate than normal. In some cases the condition is very mild to mild."
It says the normal shedding process is inhibited or "slowed down"? What exactly in the skin initiates the shedding process? that's what i want to know. I thought dead skin just falls off and dies by itself. Going far back to the lemon technique(very painful)...is there a type of cell or something responsible for "eating" dead skin? I have a thin fragile layer of skin, is that dead? If i were to stimulate new skin cell growth, wouldn't that push that dead skin upward, thus overgrowth?
Not saying we have this, but it is an almost identical condition, but ours is limited to the lips. It says it can be acquired not only inherited. I am going to look into the conditions that lead into this condition.
