Help me with this: Grids, earth and the spirit world

Can someone help me understand this a little better. I remember seeing an illustration on a metaphysical book of which I can't remember the name, but it's subject was the spirit world and it had geometric square grids on the book, I guess suggesting this is what separates the two worlds. Well I've seen such grids twice. Last night when I woke up from a deep, deep sleep I was somewhat disoriented but I could see those geometric grids all around me until I fully woke. Can someone direct me to how I can learn more about the significance of these square grids? I would like to upload an image but it's jpeg and I'm having a hard time if someone could show me how.
