how long chronic hives last

hey, I developed chronic hives about a year ago and the allergist said they typically last 3 years, but I was wondering if people with chronic hive could tell me how long theirs have lasted for. I don't want to get my hopes up for three years if that is not really the case for most people. I've already read people who have had them for six and ten years, which is why I'm asking. wouldn't it be great if they did really disappear in 3 years. please let me know, I would really appreciate it. also if anyone is taking a good medication without side effects please let me know also. I was taking hydroxyzine and it had bad side effects for me. I would be ever thankful:)
