Re: I Just Wrote This Email to My Sister Out of Concern for Her and Her Son's Health...
I thought it was a good letter and there was nothing wrong with what you said. It was honest and from the heart. Maybe it'll sink in at least a little since it's in a letter since she has to sit there thinking about it and reading it. It's different when you say things in person because the other person always cuts you off and defends themself. They can't do that reading a letter.
I would've waited to send it until after you left though. It might have left more of an impact. She might get defensive by buying more junk food just so she's not listening to you or doing what you say..some people can be weird control freaks like that.
I would've also added that she needs to talk to "tj" and find out if he likes being fat. Or maybe you could talk to him. Ask him if kids pick on him for being fat and how he feels, if he can keep up playing sports or gym class with the other kids. Maybe hearing it from her 10yrold would open her eyes as to what she's doing to him.
Your letter was kind of sad too..just because that's the typical American household these days. It's disgusting.
