Metronidazole will kill off many of the lower protozoa infections but not all of the species, for instance b. hominis has shown resistance to metronidazole. Typical treatment for metro is 5-7 days at 750 to 2250 mg/day. Again this will kill off some of the lower protozoas like giardia and crypto.
Mebendazole can kill off some of the lower worms in 3 days which is the typical treatment.
Albendazole is a close cousin to mebendazole and febendazole and many on the board have reported favorable results using this. It has wide range activity, it was first designed for treating worm infections, but off label usage showed it had power against the microbials as well (microsporidia, protozoa). Usage for albendazole in cases of microsporidia is 3 weeks at 800mg day or 400mg twice a day for 3 weeks. Others have reported that in dealing with worm infestations that longer treatment is needed rather than the 3 day protocol commonly prescribed.
