I've never found a suitable replacement for root canal. Before I was diagnosed with bruxism - I'd had 15 of them! Would have been 17 but I had two extractions (one on the far upper left, tooth #15, and the far right after the root canal and crown got infected, tooth #2). Dentists try at all costs to save teeth. I had to 'play' to get 15 extracted.
I've read the issues with bacteria and such following a root canal. In my personal experience they've been a good thing and I HOPE that my lifestyle (food, herbs, etc) would minimize the effects. So far - so good. Again, to me, its the straw that breaks the camel's back approach - the alternatives in my situation were not great. I took the root canal' as a blessing - as they required crowns I was able to 'exchange' mercury Amalgam for gold! Still not ideal, but the better of two evils.
