Hypothyroidism & homeopathy

Somebody here was asking about a cure for hypothyroidism. I have a very good homeopath who is board-certified with about 30 years experience. Unfortunately homeopathy didn't totally correct my underfunctioning thyroid gland. After reading a couple of very good books ("Living Well with Hypothyroidism" and "The Thyroid Solution") and educating myself so I could speak and understand the lingo, I saw a specialist. Bloodwork showed my TSH level (Thyroid Stimulating Hormone, which they use to measure thyroid function) to be at 5.3. This is considered high-normal by the medical profession, which, as you read the rest of this, you will see is totally misleading. He put me on levothyroxine (generic Synthroid) and brought the TSH down to around 3.0, which he considered "normal." I still felt like crap, plus I didn't like the specialist. Like so many MD's, he was an arrogant a-hole and too busy to listen to me.

I switched my thyroid monitoring over to my primary GP. Also switched to Armour Thyroid, which corrects both T4 and T3 (read up if you don't understand these terms because it can be important). I Had another blood test done a month later and the GP said my TSH was "perfect" at 2.0. But I still felt like crap. Finally I had the presence of mind to ask him what the TSH reading is for a person who does NOT have thyroid problems. He said it's around 1.0. So much for my "perfect" reading of 2.0! I also asked what's the worst that can happen if the TSH drops too low. In other words, if the thyroid over-revs into hyperthyroidism. He said it's no big deal. You just back off on the dosage until it normalizes. Commending myself for not losing my cool, I told him I wanted to get my TSH down to 1.0.

Long story made short: My TSH level is now at or slightly above 1.0. I also see the homeopath for emotional problems and assorted aches and pains, which can definitely be a carryover from low thyroid. Between the homeopathic remedy and getting my thyroid at an optimum level, I'm finally, for the first time in years, starting to feel better.

Bottom line: learn to be proactive about your healthcare and know what you're talking about because a good many doctors are idiots, and how would you know that if you don't know what's going on with your body? I hope my own experiences are helpful for others.
