Re: Cayenne Tincture

Bret,

If you have the time, could you please explain to me what you mean by cayenne being 'caustic'? At face value, I strongly disagree (but if I'm in error, I'd love to correct my knowledge bank)...or perhaps I'm not clear on your use of the word 'caustic' (which to me means corrosive).

Besides the fact that Dr. Schulze used (what most would consider) incredibly high doses of cayenne powder and/or tincture (10-20 droppersful/several tablespoons daily) in curing over 9,000 patients of incurable diseases (and I've never read of his clinical experiences or patients having difficulties), I've also read MANY sources that say this (or something similar):

>>The dried, uncooked and POWDERED herb is always used for purposes of healing. Drying the cayenne pepper cures the acids thereby eliminating any caustic effects<<

And, it's very possible that stomach acid also eliminates any caustic effects (or the millions of 'hot pepper heads' that frequently ingest handfuls of habaneros at contests, would all be dying of bleeding ulcers).

And it's also quite possible that the alcohol in tinctures eliminates the caustic effects. (If there really is a caustic effect on the skin from raw hot peppers...the only thing I've ever read is some people developing 'contact dermatitis and sensations of burning...but never eating away of the flesh).

I make my tincture with fresh habaneros (300,000 Scoville Heat Units) and I've mixed it with cream for pain relief from nerve pain & shingles - no causticity. My husband recently got into some poison ivy and wanted to give the cayenne tincture a test. He soaked cotton balls and saturated his hand/fingers. It burned like Hades for several hours, with absolutely no evidence of causticity.

We take 6-8 droppersful of that tincture every day for months - and we've never experienced anything but feeling better.

I've heard of one person that took a tincture of Naga Jolokia (Scoville HU rating over 600,000-700,000 HU, the hottest in the world) - directly/straight to the tongue, that had burning & sensitivity in their mouth for more than a day...but that's still not 'caustic'.

And of course, the powder is definitely not caustic. It will stop bleeding, and has cured all kinds of people from internal bleeding (especially bleeding stomach ulcers), and is used in all kinds of nasal sprays & snuff to open clogged sinuses.

I'm always interested in learning more, no matter how 'made up my mind is' :)

Blessings -

Unyquity
