I think that you are referring to the "strong" as being good providers or financially "strong" and the weak as being financially poor.

Being insulated through mega wealth will most likely have little to do with whether one survives a major environmental, economic, and\or population crash. In some cases perhaps, with a bit of luck and where their "wealth" (greater assets than liabilities) has enabled them to surround themselves with the direct support of many whose primary function is to provide for them.

An individual's success will most likely have more to do with their survivability and adaptability to extremes, which, in my experience, the "well to do" have a very difficult time with. When is the last time they had to forage for their food? Provide for their own shelter? Perhaps even fight and die in defending it?
