Eggs and Bacon diet - no problem for cholesterol

In the interests of dispelling myths about cholesterol, I offer you my personal experience -

I have been eating 3 to 8 eggs a day, and a couple strips of bacon 5 days a week, for the past 4 years, and my cholesterol numbers were "great".

I got the results back yesterday from my doctor, and the numbers were all very low. I wish I would have copied them down [it is a bit complicated eh], but the bad cholesterol [LDL?] was really low, and the HDL was in the good range. Triglycerides were "excellent" ; the overall ratio was in the "excellent" range.

I eat about half my eggs raw, as in a milkshake/egg nog drink. I cook the others, and eat them with the bacon. That is usually breakfast, sometimes as a supper, and as for the other meal[s] of the day I eat some meat [200gms 5 times a week] and just a little vegatable each day, AND a lot of "oilseeds" like flax, pumkin, sunflower, and hempseed hearts, plus I work in as much olive oil as I can [an ounce or more with the egg nog!]. I do eat some oatmeal [granola], maybe 4 times a week. At most, I eat one slice of whole grain bread 5 times a week, and avoid all other processed flour. No sugar, no candy, no ice cream and only a little bit of milk.

The reason I have adopted this diet is for an IBS problem, where I find it is better to avoid carbs, even those found in vegatables [but veggies are so good for me that I do eat some each day, raw preferred].

Cutting out carbs doesn't leave much to eat in this world. I avoid pasta, flour, donuts, cereal, pancakes, potatoes, rice, and so on. I get by with probably little more than 1500 calories a day, even though I exersize [ride a bike, yoga]. I am a bit thin - 150lbs on a 6' frame.

Sorry, that was a lot of data about me, as if you would be interested. I just wanted to show that eating cholesterol laden foods does not mean we will have high cholesterol, that is probably a myth. My favorite theory is that carbs cause the body to store "calories", and we get fat that way, and when we get fat we might have higher cholesterol. And, of course, genetics probably play a role - I was tested 10 years ago and also had good numbers for cholesterol back then, so I am just not prone to it I suppose.

But, eat those oil seed and Olive oil, and avoid carbs to get cholesterol down..

K
