If there are no symptoms, ...

the doctor can't do much this early. If there are no blisters or lesions, there's nothing to culture and it's way too early for antibodies to be present for a blood test, even the questionable IgM.

If there are symptoms that develop, then get to a doctor right away so they can take a swab sample for a culture.

Regarding the meds, double-blind and peer reviewed studies prove that they work and are safe. The same cannot be said for alternative treatments.

Good luck and try not to worry too much, but I agree with the other poster, keep grandma's mouth away from baby's face.
