Re: Weight Gain After Water Fast? Please respond FONTY!!!
I have done 5 fasts now, with the intention of losing half my body weight. I always put on weight at the end of each, but it's no big deal. Here's my progress:
Despite good intentions to the contrary, the last weight gain was particularly excessive due to me going away and visiting family and friends who served rather large meals. But hey, the important thing is that the overall trend is going down, and much more rapidly than any other form of weight loss.
As others have pointed out, weight gain happens at the end of a fast because you put on fluid, fill up your alimentary canal and restock on depleted reserves. So when you fast, you lose X Kg in fat and Y Kg in fluid and reserves, the latter goes back on at the end.
I find my weight gain is 3 - 5Kg if I am a bit laxed, but I can reduce the gain if I start eating very carefully after a fast ends. If I eat really carefully I can prevent weight gain altogether, as can be seen at the end of fast number 3. However I still felt weak for a while after the fast ended, and I stayed in ketosis for the period until I started fast number 4. The weight went back on at the end of 4.
The point is, just because you put weight on does not mean the fast has been a failure from a weight-loss point of view. It just means your body has restocked. The gain won't continue for more than a few days if you eat responsibly. You can just do another fast later, if you wish to lose more.
