Keep a pen/paper on the night stand to write down to-do's, concerns, etc... This clears the mind at night.
I use 3 or 4 small battery powered alarms (the cheap ones from Walmart) and a watch alarm all set to the same wake time. I have no worry that the electricity will go out or of a single alarm not going off.
Meditation can train you to control your mind and free it of unwanted thought.
