The book advocates taking DMSA for 2-6 months

That webpage does say not to take DMSA continuously for more than a week at a time. However, I have Andys book - Amalgam illness and on page 90 it states:

For most people the proper chelation protocol using DMSA nd LA is:
- starting 4 days after the last filling is replaced, 50-100mg DMSA every 4 hours (including getting up at night to take a dose) for 2-6 months, until urine mercury is reduced 80%.
- Then DMSA 50-100mg + LA 50-200mg every 3-4 hrs (including getting up at night to take a dose) for about 3 days per week...
