Re: scientific study recommends treatment for halitosis

Hi 92926,

Since there are many causes of halitosis in each person, such as metabolic conditions, localized oral infections, and altered gut bacteria, treating one alone won't necessarily eliminate bad breath completely, but it may help. Chlorhexidine gluconate oral rinse requires a prescription in the U.S., and it's used for odor-prodicing oral surgical procedures like wisdom teeth extractions. Like all Antibiotics , if you use it only for a couple of days, it would not be sufficient to kill the germs. You need to use it at least for two weeks to three weeks, if not longer.

Ideally, cleansing the gut with a laxative and restoring your gut with live refrigerated probiotics at the same time also makes a difference.

These aren't 'cures' because it only treats the symptoms and not the cause. I would think that scientists would need to determine what conditions has created the right environment for these microbial alterations to flourish.

I hope this helps.
