That sounds like a very workable remedy, good for you! Then you're not at the point of needing surgery. If you keep it clean like that, then you probably have the bacterial growth at a controlled level. If it should become uncontrolled, then you'll get the odor back. But probably doing what you're doing should help you prevent infection.
I can't say enough good things about nasal rinse with saline solution. It helps so much. I first discovered how good it is when I would go to the beach and accidently got ocean salt water up my nose a few times. It helped so much with my post nasal drip and bad breath. Then my asthma doctor and acupuncturist told me to make a saline solution using distilled water and salt (not iodized salt because it may irritate) and use a neti pot. It worked wonders. Actually, the post nasal drip stopped completely after a while. Sometimes it comes back when I have allergies, but not too often. All this helps the odor disappear.
