A Note About Garlic

I also made a post several years ago on my experience with using garlic on the P Forum when a parasite unhooked itself from a muscle. I know that I've posted a few things on garlic with a study, and the below maybe of interests to you too.

Positives

From Jean Valnet, MD’s

“In 1914, at the Metropolitan Hospital in New York, experiments in treatment were carried out on over a thousand cases of tuberculosis. Of the 56 different forms of treatment given, the results obtained by the use of garlic surpassed those of any other plant therapy.

Tincture of garlic preparation: Bulb-roots of garlic - 50g; alcohol at 60˚ - 250g”

“….a powerful effective against Staphyloccus” Clinical studies have been done on garlic as a lipid lowering agent, showing positive results. There are at least 20-30 positives about garlic. As for parasites, it has been effective when used with a milk source (goat, cow or soy).

Dr. Andrew Weil’s book – under garlic

Will It Work for You? What The Studies Say: An impressive array of healing properties has been found in garlic an ability to fight bacteria, and fungi, prevent blood clots, lower blood pressure, reduce inflammation, reduce high blood sugar, soothe the digestive tract, lower cholesterol levels, and help treat colds and flu. Some of these properties have been more fully substiated than others, but all have some scientific evidence to support them.

Research indicates that fresh garlic, at relatively high doses (5 cloves or more a day), can reduce heart disease and atherosclerosis risk factors by lowering cholesterol levels…. This was the conclusion of an examination of nearly twenty controlled trials on the subject reviewed by Dutch investigators.

…Anti-inflammatory and worm-fighting properties have also been documented.”

Negatives

This is from Charles Fetrow & Juan Avila, who are PharmDs.

  • “Allergic reactions – asthma, rash, anaphylaxis (rare)
  • Diaphoresis
  • Dizziness
  • ‘Garlic order’
  • Hypothyriodism
  • Irritation of mouth, esophagus and stomach
  • Nausea
  • Vomiting

Chronic use or excessive dosages of garlic may lead to decreased hemoglobin production and lysis of RBCs”

From Dr. Weil – “Will it Harm You? What the Studies Say: Although most people tolerate (and even enjoy) garlic in hefty doses, some develop digestive tract discomfort. A burning sensation in the mouth as well as nausea, vomiting and diarrhea can also occur. Allergic reactions are rare.  …the herb may interfere with blood-sugar-lowering medicines and anticoagulants such as warfin and aspirin.  …it has been used as an abortion-inducing agent in some cultures and may affect the menstrual cycle or uterus. …For this reason, pregnant women may want to avoid medicinal doses of the herb.”
