I purchased some grapefruit seed extract a while back but never tried applying it to the lips. I had read somewhere that somebody cured themselves with a grapefruit seed extract spray that they sprayed on their lips. Another person tried it, and their lips became inflammed, but they may have used too much. I have not tried applying it to the lips, but I add a few drops in water because of it's highly alkaline properties.
