I'm assuming you will have food-grade DE. What I did with my cat, was to rub a bit into her fur, since she cleans herself. I had plenty of water available. Worked like a charm! I didn't use a lot of it; you can always use more later.

I also always put some in the litter box - it helps to absorb the odor, and kills any parasites.
