Re: Fiance HIV Positive

If you were engaged to someone who was diagnosed with liver cancer or Rheumatoid Arthritis , how would you proceed?

Just because someone develops HIV does NOT make that person fit into a culturally preconcieved pigeon-hole. HIV can be transmitted a variety of ways, not just through sexual activity or shared hypodermic needles.

The issue here is support and compassion. If family members can be counted on to be supportive and compassionate, then they should be included in the loop - a network of support is essential, especially when someone is facing such a grave battle. If, however, family members cannot be trusted to be supportive and compassionate, then they should be forewarned that negative behaviors will not be tolerated.

Best wishes to you and your fiance.
