Can only wonder the long term effect of whatever chemicals were in all that make up put on their faces might be. Skin absorbs lots of stuff, easily, which is the basis of transdermal drug delivery. In this case, the drugs would include whatever pigments, etc. are in the makeup, which also typically contain di-glycerides which are transdermal transfer enhancement agents, and I recall reading that lots of make up stuff has heavy metals in it. Maybe those guys had the first true "heavy metal" band. I think they did put a few decent pieces of music out and definitely got a lot of publicity from the shock of the appearance aspect.
