Re: Something weird that helped me-I made a video
Right on, Trysten!
I saw a talk given by a spastic lady in a wheelchair, a long time ago.
She wasn't there to speak on spastic people, of course, though she touched on it. If she hadn't, it would have been like the proverbial 'elephant in the living room' that no one mentioned, out of politeness. :D
This gal was as sharp as a tack about her subject, and everyone wanted to know her opinion. She had great ideas.
But, at first, we were surprised at her being in a wheelchair, bent over sideways, hands crooked and waving oddly...her face distorted. And we couldn't understand her speech.
She must have given talks before, because she spoke on, quietly, and a miracle happened...
We understood her...and liked her.
It was really odd when she finished her talk and we realized that our 'ears', our minds, had grown used to her speech and appearance, so that she sounded and looked quite 'normal', and we now had to return to speaking to each other.
The actress, Lee Remick, told of her surprise when first arriving in England. Within five minutes she was speaking as though she was a native...and was even embarrassed that they might think she was making fun of them...copying.
I wonder how many kids have come home after a Saturday matinee, speaking like Superman, etc.
We don't often get a chance to see ourselves from the outside, as others see us...in motion.
That's brilliant, Trysten!
