The next show was about squelching cravings, easily.

...1. Think about the food you crave.

...2. Imagine a food you DON'T like...a big plate of it in front of you. Imagine taking a big bite, and chewing it, tasting it.

...3. Make it worse...imagine adding hair from the barbershop floor, or worms.

...4. Press your LEFT thumb against the tip of the middle finger of your LEFT hand. Then remember the food you crave.

...5. Switch your imagination to a memory of something that made you feel good...falling in love, an award you received, something that made you feel thoroughly happy.

...6. At the same time, press your RIGHT thumb against the tip of the middle finger of your RIGHT hand.

What this exercise accomplishes is a negative connection between the LEFT hand and the brain...and a positive connection in the RIGHT.

Now you have tools for choice. You can apply the tool you prefer when you feel a compulsion to eat something. You can decide for yourself to eat it (RIGHT hand), or not (LEFT hand).

They showed a gal who was overwhelmed by a craving for chocolate. She estimated that she ate about 5 pounds of chocolate, and chocolate candy, per day.

Once she had done this imagining exercise her cravings for chocolate became a matter of choice. She could eat it, or not, as she pleased. (She chose not to.)

Perhaps it was that remembering her craving in Step #4 that did the trick.

They also did an experiment to prove that it is the quantity of food in front of a person that may keep them eating beyond their actual hunger.

They rigged one table, and bowl, with tubes under the table that would keep that bowl supplied with tomato soup...bottomless. The other table had a regular bowl of tomato soup.

The young woman who ate the regular bowlful felt satisfied.

The other young woman, eating the bottomless bowlful, kept on eating for quite a while. Finally, she stopped...satisfied, although the bowl was still full to a regular serving size.

They told her how they had rigged the bowl, of course, and she laughed...but it was a good proof that a person may keep on eating, just because they SEE food.

Yes, this program has 'hype', but I think it helps with enthusiasm. Maybe it is dispelling the myth that we are alone.

Plus they use a recap each program...

...Eat when you feel hungry.

...Eat only the things you really like. (Throw everything else out.)

...Eat 'consciously'...without TV, radio, or a book. And, put down your fork and chew each mouthful twenty times.

...Stop eating when you first get the idea that you might be full. One way to test this is to eat with your eyes closed, or a blindfold. You will be amazed at how much of your usual meal is still on the plate, when you first feel full.

They simplify these points into a question and answer format. The audience shouts the answers...HUNGRY; LIKE; CONSCIOUSLY; and STOP.

It's a good program, I think.

I particularly like that folks don't have to 'think' about all the in's and out's of their emotions and 'worthiness'. That's a minefield...and absolutely shouldn't be done alone, in my opinion.

People seem to be very happy with it, although there's no proof greater than ones own experiences.

The full disclaimer is given, of course...

...Seek your doctor's approval before making any dietary changes, and,

...This program is for entertainment purposes, only.

I agree.

In trying to write my impressions of this program, here, I couldn't possibly address your particular needs...nor am I qualified to do so.

Seek advice from professionals in altering any part of your diet, and lifestyle.
