Re: Cat still has diarrhea question
Hey joseph,
Your cat may have giardia, a parasite. A cat, dog, human, etc. can become infected from a contaminated water source.
The cat will have diarrhea that is extremely foul-smelling, it can be watery or the consistency like cow paddies. At first the diarrhea may be occasional but it will become worse if left untreated. Weight loss will come.
Diagnosis can be made through a fecal smear. The eggs are shed intermittently, so a negative result may not be correct. Sometimes it will take samples of stool taken at different days to be certain. (there may be a blood test available, I'm not certain)
It takes a round of Flagyl (metronidazole) to get rid of the giardia.
Your cat is beautiful, I hope that you find out the reason for his diarrhea. I lost one of my cats from giardia this past January. She was tiny, under 5lbs - normal weight - by the time that I knew what was up and suspected giardia she wasn't able to regain weight or strength.
Keep us posted...
