Re: my developments with the naturopath + cat update
Thanks for the link. Maybe I should get that supplement instead of taking zinc alone.
I was dimly aware of the zinc-copper balance. I'm looking at my report...according to this, my copper levels are decent, but my zinc was low. I thought I was probably getting enough copper in my diet from plant foods (if any of the minerals are high enough), chocolate, and in the last year, I've been eating liver. Usually chicken liver, but generally from animals raised outdoors, not industrially-produced animals. I read an article about zinc-copper balance, though, that nowadays, copper overload is often the problem, to the detriment of zinc. Birth control pills can cause copper overload, I've read - check, though I've been off them for years now. Not that I am overloaded on copper, just that according to this test, I seem to be sufficient for now. I also gather that a blood test isn't necessarily the greatest way to test for this, and that normal levels of copper in the blood could indicate higher levels tightly bound in other tissues. I'd rather get my zinc from food...though clearly years of eating meat hasn't overloaded me on zinc. I guess this all depends on the reference ranges, though.
