If you didn't have any visible lesions, then taking a sample for a herpes culture is probably out of the question. Shedding is the term for when the virus is present on the surface, but it probably doesn't make sense to take a cervical sample looking for herpes. The doctor is possibly looking for BV, which is bacterial vaginosis and yeast, too. Let us know what you find out on Monday. Sorry you couldn't get some sort of answer before the weekend.
