I agree with both above posts. But what you get when you take away the rules and regualtions is not an organized religion such as Catholicism, Methodist, or eastern religions.
America used to be a hot bed of metaphysical spiritualism in the 1800s. One of the main old age metaphysical precepts was - establish a relationship with God on a personal level. Metaphysicians such as Mary Baker Eddy, Charles Fillmore, and Emma Curtis Hopkins all espoused establishing a relationship with God on a personal level.
Doing away with the rules has a great liberating effect. But one needs to be careful to not rationalize bad behavior.
