Re: nearly the end of day 1 and happy!

Always check the tongue before you brush it, especially first thing in the morning. After that brush as much as you want within reason, you don't want to end up red raw. ;)

I've heard it said ketosis begins in 18-36 hours. I'd say that's average. It's based on how long it takes for our body to consume the last bit of Sugar we've digested so it could vary greatly on that time. And once ketosis is started it can still take another day or more for the body to complete the transition and be providing enough energy and nutrition from it's stores to completely fuel the body.

The hunger we usually feel the first day or three is programmed hunger not real hunger so it's no bad thing you don't have it! I have rarely actually felt hungry whether fasting or not, I've recognised for a long time that my reasons for eating are rarely if ever hunger related.

Apart from detox symptoms which occur differently for everyone, the main sign I look for for going into ketosis is the darkening and smell (pong!) of the urine. Once you've done it a couple of times you'll recognise that smell right away. And of course the tongue you already know about. I find the physically I feel 'content' or pleasantly 'satisfied' hunger wise, like I'd not eaten long ago and the phantom meal was just perfect for my body leaving it happy just the way it is. Physically there is just rarely any desire to take anything into my body at all while fasting, it just feels the right and normal thing to do.

Andrew.
