Yes, but they are not alone. Children have long been the "insurance plan" of parents, and still are in many countries. In Asia this is still true. Since the Chinese can no longer have an abundance of children, they pour their money, time, and effort into getting their 1 or 2 children into as successful a position as possible! This is one of the contributing factors in parents abandoning or aborting girl children, in an effort to have a son as the heir, to carry on their family name and take care of them in their old age.
