Re: olive oil
You might want to consider getting a test done from Geneva Diagnostics called Detoxification Profile. Essentially you take three substances (caffeine, aspirin, tylenol) and have urine, saliva and blood tests done over two days to track how well your liver pathways are dealing with these substances. I just had one done a few months ago, although I had a very bad experience once with aspsirin (internal bleeding), so I did not take the aspirin. With just the other two substances they were able to check 3 of the 4 pathways.
I have thought my liver was not working properly for a number of years, but I have flushed and I was almost positive that it was not due to a congested liver. I am big into kinesiology (muscle testing) and see two kinesiologists. The main one (who I have been seeing for 3 years) could never find anything wrong with my liver. He muscle tested me for milk thystle and my body was not craving it, so he told me there was no liver damage. While I knew my liver was not working right, I didn't think it was majorly damaged. I was inclined to bleieve that it was turned off or missing something to cause it to run right. The tests on my body run by the other kinesiologist (who I have only been seeing for six months) were coming back that my liver was a major source of my bodies problems.
Last month I started a water fast and ran into big problems.I have bad circulation and it got extremely worse during the fast. I switched to juice after 3 days, felt better , then went back to water for three days. Again, I went downhill rapidly. My core body tempature fell through the floor. Ironcally I had a visit with my main kinesiologist already scheduled. What was interesting was that during the fast my symptoms, especially the circulation issue, would get very bad about 20 minutes after I took a hot shower. What I think was going on was that the hot water was increasing my circulation and moving the toxins being released during the fast throughout my body and my liver was not handling it well, so my circulation then tanked. As it turns out, the bad experience was a blessing in disguise because it brought the problems out in the open and the kinesiologist checked my thyriod and could see that I was MAJOR hypothyroid (later confirmed by blood tests) and that muscle tests showed that by clearing the thyroid problem my liver points cleared as well. It turnes out it was my thyroid that was dragging down my liver. He put me on a few homeopathics that test to clearing the problem.
In terms of the liver test I had done, the pathway results were not bad (although the one pathway I didn't check might be bad), HOWEVER, the building blocks for liver function - cysteine, sulphate and glutathione - were VERY low. The first two were outside of two standard deviations. I started some supplements to bring these up but I am hoping they will raise naturally when my thyroid function returns.
