if you are looking for a method that is a bit less 'hands on' do a sitz bath.

i dont have a bathtub so i do sitz showers, works great for me.
do a search, give it a try, it doesnt cost anything and it starts working after the first one and after a few it will clear up completly.

they always work for me.
