Re: Hey Laura....Did You Read This Thread?

Hey Arnold,

I think W. posted it here a month or so ago and I did read it. (Not the whole thread that ensued at Iodine, though... thanks for that.) She and I are both big fans of Weston A. Price and his teachings, which make a lot of sense if you read them and the stuff that the good folks over at the WAP Foundation have posted:

http://www.westonaprice.org

(you can probably find that Mary Enig article over there).

I feel kind of bad because I do consume some flax seed oil, and will need to stop that -- but overall around here we don't use much else to cook besides coconut oil and butter, and the only non-OP oil around is olive for salads (although I have been reading so much about olive oil that "isn't" olive oil I personally don't use it that much, though my husband thinks I'm being paranoid and that if it says "olive oil" it IS olive oil.

Like Wombat I also "bought" the whole idea of oils and soy being good for you (only fermented soy is, it turns out). I'd buy a product because it contained canola! (Which we now know is not a great substance to ingest.) And so forth. In fact, right up through my pregnancy I was drinking lots of soy milk, believing it was better for me than real milk.

Anyway, I really bought into Weston A. Price when I read it because it has never fundamentally sat well with me that we are as a population so sick today compared with, say, a hundred years ago. Another site I love is the food writer Nina Planck's:

http://www.ninaplanck.com

who talks a lot about traditional foods, saturated fats being good and important, etc. (And some other cool stuff.)

The best part of it all is eating things like butter and whole milk and other foods with impunity and feeling better to boot! (Well, the best part is that my children are very healthy -- in large part, I believe, because they get the fats they need, but you know what I mean!)

Thanks,

Laura
