Re: Bank of America buys Countrywide
Jeez, I hope you get a different company now.
HA~! I should slap myself as my bias runs sooo
deep, I do not want YOU to shower any business
their way. They also give illegals credit cards
which, imho, has a negative trickle down effect.
My choice of cards was the bank where I go in
and the vice-president knows my name and comes
out of his office to ask me how its going. I only
have one which comes in handy when you are traveling
and need to reserve a room or want to conserve your
cash or need to buy a windshield when the chain
from a semi speeding by wipes yours out...sigh...ggg.
I have never given the bank a cent in interest as
they make plenty charging the people who accept my
card a kick-back. I did have my purse stolen once
and so it was easier to accept that the plastic
was taken than perhaps a chunk of my life's savings.
I had a wealthy friend who was forever freezing her
credit cards since she could not ever stop using them
and even with a 10 grand per month allowance, she was
always borrowing money from me~! You always knew she
had blown it when you went to get ice and there was
a freezer box with credit cards floating frozen in
them. I kept telling her she should only use one but
she was terrified to do it, as if they were her
grown-up binkys~!
Personally, I am with you and would rather have none,
but so far, I've figured out if I go wandering and have
no destination or time frame, I cannot carry enough
cash. This way, I call the credit card people once
a month and pay the card off which is way less stressful
than trying to keep track of all the little bills like
internet and such. I also discovered that credit cards
offer an immediacy that the postal service does not. I
once used a check to pay a bill and it took over two
weeks to get to its destination whereas a call using
the credit card, its a done deal. I do not consider
it so much as the mark of the devil as a little bit
of social security. One has to use it wisely though.
On another note though, I am also amazed that many do
not understand the credit card racket. I recently spoke
with my future son-in-law and asked him if he was carrying
a debt load and he said some. I asked him if he had savings,
and he said, yeah. I asked him if he would consider going
out in the front yard and tossing a twenty dollar bill into
the wind, and of course he said no way. I told him, if you
carry a debt load, say of 100 bucks a month and the interest
rate is 20% or higher, you are tossing money to the wind.
He got it immediately and said he would go pay it off with
his savings so he would not be wasting his bucks. I think
people see banks like a friendly Uncle handing them a wad
of cash and saying, pay me back when you get the chance...
oh and banks like the Bank of America...dang the fine print
gets smaller and they can ratchet up the interest without
even mentioning that to you. Profit is the game and you are
the target~!!

Zoe
