does muay thai benefit the body.
a couple of people i know have stopped muay thai as they say conditioning involved in it is no good for your body and it is little more than brutal fighting.
i probably would agree with the first remark as it cant be good walking away from the gym after a workout with blood seeping from your shins and heavily bruised ribs, but there is so much more to mauy thai than just hurting the other opponent.
a properly judged fight in thailand would see tremendous kicks or spinning elbows or punches that must have taken years to master enough to use in a fight.
i think what you find over here (in the uk) is the dumbed up version with no elbows more western boxing tacs and simplified kicks, also clinchwork over here is much less refined than that of the origional thai style. you can see how the essence of muay thai can be lost so others will see it as little more than a sport as a pose to an art.
I have found an instructor who has been practicing since the early 80s when it was introduced over here and he was taught full muay thai rules and teqniques, the club is quite small but everybody knows each other well and he trains us really hard.
i have been to a couple of other classes which were oversized with not enough teachers or studying the dumbed up version and i can say none of them come close to where i am now, including other arts (personal opinion).
anone else practice this art, if so what are your veiws, id like to hear about training methods in the states.
thanks for reading.
