Re: Another thought

Soy does have estrogen-like qualities. In my situation, the dr said I had enough estrogen and too much testosterone, but I lacked progesterone which is a hormone that causes estrogen and testo to work TOGETHER, rather than fighting each other. Though i wasn't tested until a few years ago, he said that -given my symptoms and history- lack of progesterone was probably my big problem all along. It's possible that is also your issue?

I also took birth control pills in my 20's and soon quit as I had as much trouble with them as you. It's amazing how we seem to be guinea pigs for dr's who apparently have no idea what they are doing.

My dr says the problem with synthetic hormones (almost all prescriptions) is that they are synthetic; that's why studies show they cause cancer. He says modern pharmaceautical medicine makes a big mistake isolating substances and making them into synthetics because we have no idea how the other substances found in the natural form affects the now-isolated substance. We THINK we know how things work, but there is still alot we don't know. I hope i explained that right!

Anyway, he believes in natural all the way and I now take natural bio-identical hormones...I must say I never felt better and wish I had discovered my dr. ages ago. He doesn't guess on symptoms, but gives a blood test to determine hormone levels.

Did the dr's say you were low on estrogen? If so, that would explain soy's help but there is some talk about dangers of soy...we can't win! Any mention of your possible progesterone level? At any rate, testoterone is a big factor in acne.

I mention this only in hopes of saving someone else the misery I experienced. I always expected I'd "grow" out of my hormone imbalances, but they just don't change on their own.
