I had one thing I couldn't understand that made me keep reading. Every morning when I first opened my eyes, I could see the alarm clock across the room (about 10 feet away; a few moments later, it was it's usual blur. I could never understand why I could read the time for just a second or so. Dr. Bates explains why; he also tells you what to do about it. But, it must be done, off and on, every day. The muscles around the eye are what control your vision, or lack of it. They must be exercised and retrained. The 'retraining' part is why it is necessary to work at it daily, or else, you fall back into the usual state. Then there is 'relaxation'; this is why I could see that clock when awakening; my eye muscles were relaxed.
