Actually, this is precisely why he is popular and gaining support. They recognize that without swift change, the consequences will be more drastic.
And I thoroughly disagree that quick changes can't be implemented. It is true quick band-aid fixes would fail (this has been our current path). However, swift fundamental changes start to work immediately and stick. The RP ideology is simple and fundamental.
With the right leadership, all things are possible and the country would rally around the growing pains. Without leaders that inspire, indeed, people will throw-up their hands and say "this is too difficult, give me an aspirin". The best teachers in my life weren't the ones who coddled me along gradually. They were the ones that pushed me hard and expected the most from me. Who were yours?
