I just joined up 'cos I'm worried about a website that seems like a scam (Lohanbehold.com) but chanced upon this thread.

I agree that we must choose charities wisely. In England, there's one called OXFAM & their gifts are ideal for the "person who has everything". It's actually a llot of fun choosing which 'gift'. If you're interested in giving with a conscience then check out the link below:

I gave my sister a goat for her birthday (I wrote "HAPPY BIRTHDAY, YOU OLD GOAT!" IN THE CARD - HE, HE, HE!) She loved it & said she'd be doing this with her friends. I then gave a market stall as a wedding gift to her & her husband.
I won't bore you with the others gifts I've given since then.

I know people who work in companies and schools, where the staff have forgone "Secret Santa" and now put money in to this kind of gift giving. It's not for everybody but many people you know may love it.

Before anyone asks, I thought I'd point out that:

a) I don't work & never have worked for this NGO, & neither has any of my family! I just love what they're doing.

b) Yes - it IS a British charity but their work is worldwide ... perhaps there are US charities that do the same gift scheme. If not, perhaps they could be encouraged to?

c) I DO buy regular gifts too - but we all know people feel guilty about having way too much stuff with all the poverty we see, & those that a are simply are trying to de-clutter.
