Re: Caffeine can make you lose hair

I agree that caffeine consumption can be the culprit in increasing hair loss! I was gradually loosing hair on and off for years, just shedding more than normal it seemed. These phases would come and go, but usually there would be a ball of it in the drain and some hair around my ankles when I rinsed. When I'd style my hair, there'd always be lots of hair on the floor and in my brush. This would drive me crazy as I noticed gradual thinning and decrease of overall volume by about 1/2 or more of my original thickness. This all started when I began drinking coffee in high school. I always suspected caffeine was the culprit, but A.) there's not much literature on the subject, B.) many people drink caffeine that have very thick hair, C.) I love the taste/effect, D.) My doctor made no correlation for me, so it's been very hard to stop on just a hunch. I quit drinking coffee one summer for three months and still experienced some shedding, but maybe caffeine affects some people's hormones differently, especially your stress hormones, which have a known effect on hair follicles. I mainly need support of others with this problem, as there doesn't seem too much said on the subject.
