Re: Castor oil packs and Peyer's Patches.
Being pretty new to the castor oil pak experience, I find it interesting that there is such a varying range of tips to be found out there. Just on the aspect of "how long?", this McGarey article advises up to two hours at a clip. J.R. Christopher advised "90 minutes or more". Just today I did some searches and found many that offered stern advice that the pak should only be left on for 10 to 20 minutes. In the latter case, the purveyors of this tip also skimped on rationale, saying "castor oil paks might improve circulation". I even found one source that suggested that it's okay to sleep over night with a pak on. Christopher specifically advised against this very thing.
Another aspect I've seen variances with pertains to the use of heat. Most of the tips I've seen so far advise dry heat, but there are quite a few that are somewhat ambiguous, advising "a water bottle, or heating pad". Christopher was not ambiguous, advising that if a heating pad is used, a damp towell should be placed between he heating pad and the oil pak. In other words, pak on skin, damp towell over pak, plastic over that, heating pad over that and generally over the liver area, blankets over all of that. J.R. was generally a big advocate of using moist heat whenever a condition needed heat brought to bear, or to put in his words "dry heat is the dessert, death, moist heat is the garden of Eden, life".
From the perspective of a newby - like me, it sure would be easy get confused with all these tips that at times contradict each other.
FWIW, here is a reference to some people claiming to have some scientific test data that backs up the assertion that Castor Oil Pak improves the immune system.
