HELP ASAP Is Swelling and burning from salve normal?

My wife has the mole on her leg. We have been putting bloodroot/black salve on it for 4-5 days. It has developed the white ring around it and is swollen. We keep it clean, but it burns down in and is swollen. I know some swelling is expected but is the pain, bad most of the time, something to be expected? Also, what would happen if we used hydrogen peroxide around it to disinfect?
We need help ASAP.
