Let me chance another response that might not offend the true followers.

I do not meditate but from whatever I do I bring back many pictures with me. Many can not be intrepted and the knowledge behind them is simply withheld from us.
You might try this> after a fruitful journey sit and open yourself to the pictures without trying to analyze them. Also the time for prayer is over, just 'meditate' on what you have seen. Reject new ideas that may pop up.

I have sat for hours as the knowledge of what was seen leaks into my conscience mind and back into my memory of what happened.

It sounds like you have the basics down. Praying to God, you are in good company.
