Re: USDA Plans to Nuke All Raw Greens -- FALSE RUMOR!!

Hi folks,
This was all an accident. It started when someone posted a message at rawfoods.com with a subject line about 'Almond Pasteurization-- Now They're Going After Our Greens!'. Only... they're not! But the rumor spread like wildfire because people didn't read the actual FDA documents, and e-mails started circulating. If you actually go and read the proposal, it's looking to make the growers accountable for better growing, handling and shipping practices-- which is good!-- and it includes 'flexibility' for smaller farms so as not to cause them undue hardship. The only somewhat bad thing in the proposal is that is they want to regulate microbes in the soil in a way that flies in the face of organic standards. Okay, let's all take a breath and relax. All is well... for now. I do believe that they will try to irradiate our produce in the future, so let's stay on this issue.
