Re: Andy Cutler-Stephen Hawking Project

Hi Chantalh, mercury doesn't necessarily lead to poor cognitive and intellectual ability in everyone. ALS just affects specific cells of the brain and spinal cord which control movement of voluntary muscles. Intellectual function is not affected.

There are other mercury induced illnesses where intellectual ability isn't necessarily affected eg M.S. though I know these problems can appear during the later stages for some people, Arthritis and psychological disorders like schizophrenia.

It will depend on where the mercury ends up, what nutritional deficiencies someone has aswell as their own physiological make-up and genetic tendencies.
