Re: Need serious help w/5yo 8-week long cough
The very best remedy I have ever seen for this is lobelia. You can get it in the health food store, in a tincture. You can put one drop in a half cup of warm or tepid water and let him drink it as often as necessary. It works as an expectorant and is better than Robitussin DM. It is not harsh. You can give frequently, but not more than one drop at a time. If you cannot find lobelia, use mullein or a mullein combination. If you have cod liver oil, give him that. Use Vicks, front, back, and feet each night, never in the daytime.
Change his diet to just protein and vegetables - much like an andi-candida diet. If there is something he craves everyday, he is probably allergic to it, and you may have to eliminate that.
I have had massive chest colds in the past; my father has too. We have found that if we use cleansing foods, raw fruits and juices, or Vitamin C, that the cold stays for weeks and weeks. There are just some people like that. My theory is that Vitamin A is more appropriate than Vitamin C type cleansers for chest colds. Somehow it slows the massive cleansing, and later you can do smaller, more reasonable cleansing. For cleansing, you do not want him detoxing through his chest, you want to use his bowels. Be sure he is having adequate BMs, even very loose stools are preferable at this point.

Iodine FAQs, but gives an overview on why we detox from certain organs and not from others.

On another level, we tend to have problems in our chest when we are in situations where we have no control over our circumstances. Inasmuch as a five year old can have control over anything, it would be important to help him to have a little control over whatever is appropriate and to help him get whatever he needs to "off his chest" so to speak.
