i see the two as being very different. with home made, you get to use as much as you need to do the job without worrying about the money or availability. thats sweet.

if you buy CS already made, be sure it is of a good quality. utopia is very good and i can personally recommend that. other brands people have had good results with are sovereign silver and mesosilver. and that is the bottom line - taking what works and taking enough of what works. i have never heard of anyone taking too much silver. lots of people for whom it doesnt work simply took too little.
