The shoes will hold the odor. You have to wash the shoes if they re tennis shoes, or throw them away. It is not that you can just "freshen them" with something.

To keep shoes from holding odor, do not ever wear them without socks, and if they get wet, they must be washed. They have to be washed often as long as you have a hint of this problem.

Your feet must be washed every day. It is the bacteria that cause the smell. Then you should put on white cotton socks and clean shoes. To do only part of this will not solve the problem.

Smelly feet can be helped by taking a zinc supplement.

If this is fungus, and I suspect it is, you must correct the problem systemically.
If you have any smell to your stool, or smelly gas, you need to take acidophilus or another probiotic supplement to bowel tolerance and then back off. Limit your Sugar and starch intake because these feed the yeast. (fungus, yeast, candida = same thing)
